Guest Post: 5 Basic Boosts for Busy Parents

March 09, 2009

Thanks to Ana at Sillicon Valley Savvy Source for lining up this awesome guest post.

I know, I know, being a parent is tough.  We're so focused on taking care of our children that sometimes we forget to take care of ourselves.  Nutrition-wise, we often take the quick and easy way out -- a cookie here, a bag of chips there, a cup of coffee for breakfast, half of our children's mac-n-cheese at dinnertime .  I'm as guilty as anyone.  But what's a busy parent to do? Today's guest posters, Bonnie Johnson and Deanna Segrave-Daly, serve up five great ways parents can maintain a healthy lifestyle even in the midst of all the childhood chaos.  As registered dieticians, they know the ins and outs of good nutrition.  Even more important, they are moms who understand that our busy, crazy schedules means we need quick, manageable solutions -- and all the help we can get.

Tuesday List: Parenting Wi-Fi Spots

February 24, 2009

I've been having some problems with my Internet and computer at home lately.  Usually I try and hop on an unsecured network in the area to get some quick work done, but they aren't always available.  This got me thinking about a list of great places to get some WiFi.  Often I see a sign outside of a business and think, "that would be a great place to take my computer and get some quiet" or "that would be a great place to surf the web while the kids play."  Read more...

January 27, 2009

Oh how fast they grow. In 5 short years they grow old enough to go to leave home and go to school 5 days a week. For some kids they will only be gone half a day but for the majority of the school districts, it is a whole day affair. While you may be looking ahead to your freedom, slow down and enjoy your precious few years with them. Let's start a list of things to do with our kids  Read more...

Guest Post: Potty Training Power!

January 23, 2009

Do the words "diapers", "wipes", and "potty training" haunt you? Both of the boys took a long time to decide they were ready to move on from diapers, but when they did it was pretty easy. The months where I tried to force them to "train"? Not so easy. For those of you in the same boat or approaching the water, I have snagged you some experts on the subject. Here to help are Sean and Cindy  Read more...

The Things That Matter Most To Them

January 06, 2009

Being kids, there is so much they lose control over. We as parents take away many of their choices, not a bad thing in itself, we do it for their best interest. However, they are always looking for ways to be in charge of themselves and this creates a power struggle. In the grand scheme of things, it is probably the smallest things (to us) that matter the most (to them). Freedom to move.  Read more...

Usborne First Experiences

November 20, 2008

I love November's theme "Because a Great Book..." We are in love with books at our house. Book shelves are over flowing and yet buying a w book is hard to resist. J comes home with a new school library book every couple of days and although he is in kindergarten, his librarian knows him and his favorite books by name.
