Catching Their Reflections

January 13, 2009

After our children start to notice their familiar family members they begin to notice themselves.  I have always loved those moments when they child I am holding as we walk by the bathroom mirror realizes that the mommy in the mirror holding that baby is us.  Awwww.

Today's Tuesday List is the best places for them to catch a glimpse of themselves.

1.) Start at home.  The bathroom mirror can provide fun time during teeth brushing, playing with ocean animals in the sink or just making silly faces.  A hand mirror in any other room can make for a fun game of peek a boo.  Help your preschoolers make and identify feelings faces (mad, sad, excited, sick) and let them really play it up.

2.) The green screen at the children's museum.  This one takes a little practice but the kids can act in front of the camera and see themselves projected onto a scene of their choosing.  Check the hook on the wall for ribbons to wave.  My boys like the camping scene where they pretend to walk across a log bridge.

3.) The reflecting pool at Reid Park.  There is a nice wide path to walk around with or without a stroller.

4.) The puddles at the Brandi Fenton Splash park.  The water is usually turned on from April -- October.  When the kids bend down to stop a fountain from rising they just may catch a glimpse of themselves.

5.) The mirrors at Springs Gymnastics.  J can not get enough of his tumbling, trampoline jumping self.  I have to remind him to watch out for other people and not just himself.  Open gym is held on Tuesdays and Fridays for the under 5 crowd.
