Tucson 4th of July

July 02, 2009

Independence Day is a fun holiday for the whole family.  Grocery sales abound for the family cook out and fireworks displays are enjoyed by most.  Here's where you can find your fun this weekend:
Davis Monthan Air Force Base - If you have access to the base there will be youth events during the day. A skate demonstration and competition at the skate park will be held from 10am-12pm for ages 5 and up. A pool party for the whole family will run from 11am - 3pm.  Shuttles will begin at 5:30pm from both elementary schools. Bama park will open at 6pm with food, a band, booths and games. Fireworks will begin at 8:30 and last about 25 minutes.  The band and games will continue until 10pm.
Tucson Convention Center and fireworks on "A" Mountain - Thanks to generous private donations the previously cancelled fireworks are back on.  Join the celebration with food, drinks, and concerts at the convention center.  Parking is $5 and fesitivities start at 6pm with fireworks at 9pm.  You can also see the fireworks for free in some of the surrounding neighborhoods.
KiiM-FM's Freedom Festival- Enjoy a full evening of country music stars featuring Tracy Lawrence and Pat Green.  Tickets are currently $20 online and at Catalina Marts.  Kids 10 and under are free with a paid adult.  Gates open at Rialto Park at 5pm.  Fireworks will follow the concerts.
If you are getting out without the kids you might want to check out the Indie - Pendance Day
Extravaganza at the historic Hotel Congress.
Have a happy and safe weekend.  Be sure your kids know that the "Rockets red glare" and "Bombs bursting in air" are the signs of our freedom.
